Lucknow: The Social Welfare Department is promoting the overall development of students in Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools across Uttar Pradesh by providing opportunities beyond classroom education. As part of this initiative, students are being enrolled in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to develop discipline, leadership and a sense of national service.
According to a departmental report, 344 students are currently undergoing NCC training in Sarvodaya Schools. An additional 80-seat NCC Junior Division unit has been allotted to Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya School, Kandhni, in Etawah, with the training process to be taken forward as per NCC guidelines.
At Bastaura, Rasra in Ballia, 50 students have been selected for NCC this academic session, of whom 44 have proceeded for a 10-day training programme. The Sarvodaya School at Nagla Hiralal in Etawah has 50 cadets, while 100 students at Bhojipura in Bareilly, 66 at Parsia in Mirzapur and 34 girls at the Sarvodaya Girls School in Madihan, Mirzapur, are associated with NCC.
NCC training provides students opportunities to participate in parade, physical training, camps, social service and adventure activities. These experiences help develop discipline, leadership skills, confidence, teamwork and a sense of responsibility. NCC certificates can also prove useful, subject to applicable rules, for various educational and employment opportunities.
Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge) Asim Arun said the government is giving special attention to the all-round development of students along with education. He said NCC would help strengthen discipline, leadership and the spirit of national service among students, while expansion of NCC units in schools such as Kandhni would provide them with new opportunities.
